SSS APR Field 19
Question regarding field 19.
I have a 1st time freshman participant who is bringing in enough college credits (via high school dual enrollment at a community college) to be a sophomore level student at our university. This student has never been enrolled at our institution before this current fall semester. This current semester, Fall 26, is their first time enrolling at our institution.
Per field 19, College Grade Level (entry into project), I believe the student should be a 1 (1st yr., never attended). Would you consider this correct even though the are bringing in enough credits to be a sophomore via high school dual enrollment (credits earned via a community college )?

Great question! You are correct. See the following that I copied and pasted from the top of page 10 of the 24-25 SSS APR instructions: "Field 19—Select the participant’s college grade level at the time of project entry. In determining the students’ postsecondary grade level, use the criteria of the grantee institution regarding grade level classifications and academic standing. Most postsecondary institutions use credits earned and grade point average to determine the college grade level. For students who have earned college credits during high school or through placement testing but have not previously been enrolled in college, use option “1 = 1st year, never attended.” However, in determining these students’ college grade level at the end of the reporting year (field 27), count the earned credits in determining the end of the reporting year grade level. Once you provide this information, do not update it in subsequent reporting years."
