As TRIO Directors work through their 2026–2027 project year budget approvals, travel costs are often an area that needs a closer look. TRIO projects may sponsor campus visits, career field trips, cultural activities, research conferences, and other approved participant activities where staff travel with students. That creates a common budget question: If the trip is for students, can all of the travel costs be treated as student travel or participant support costs? In Issue N
