Creating Opportunities Through Education

Creating Opportunities Through Education
Founded in 2003, NOSOTROS Education Center, or NEC, is a national education consulting firm dedicated to helping institutions create stronger pathways to educational access, student success, and economic mobility.

The word nosotros means “we” in Spanish. That idea is at the heart of our work. We approach every client relationship as a true partnership, listening carefully, understanding each organization’s unique needs, and working alongside its team to develop practical, sustainable solutions.

NEC serves colleges, universities, school districts, nonprofit organizations, and community-based agencies across the country. We are especially known for our expertise in TRIO and other federally funded educational opportunity programs that support low-income, first-generation students, students with disabilities, adult learners, and others pursuing their educational and career goals.

Our services include grant proposal development and technical reviews, professional development, program implementation assistance, policy and procedure manual development, compliance assessments, external evaluations, annual performance report support, database training, budget management assistance, and customized technical assistance. We help organizations compete successfully for funding, strengthen existing programs, and build systems that support long-term success.

What sets NEC apart is firsthand experience. Our team members have worked directly in educational opportunity programs and understand the realities of serving students, managing grant requirements, preparing reports, training staff, responding to monitoring findings, and building strong programs with limited resources. We do not offer generic, one-size-fits-all recommendations. We provide informed guidance based on real experience and tailored to each client’s goals, resources, and community.

Since 2003, NEC has helped clients secure more than $879 million in grant funding and has maintained a 92 percent proposal success rate. While we are proud of those results, we are most proud of the trust our clients place in us and the opportunities those resources create for students, families, and communities.

At its core, NEC exists because we believe education can change the course of a person’s life. Our work may involve grants, compliance, training, evaluations, and strategic planning, but the purpose is always the same: helping organizations create meaningful opportunities for the people they serve.
FOUNDER & CEO

Founder and CEO Elizabeth “Lisa” Retamozo began her work in educational opportunity and TRIO programs in 1994. Before founding NEC, she spent more than 11 years developing and leading pre-college, career, and student success programs serving youth and adults.

Lisa founded NEC after relocating to North Texas and recognizing that her experience in program development, grant writing, technical assistance, and student success could help more institutions beyond a single campus or community. What began as a small consulting practice has grown into a national organization serving clients across the country.

A proud graduate of The University of Texas at Austin and Texas Woman’s University, Lisa was named to the University of Texas Longhorn 100 in both 2023 and 2026, recognizing NEC as one of the fastest-growing Longhorn-owned businesses in the world.
