TRIO Included on Negotiated Rulemaking Calendar

Last week, the U.S. Department of Education released its planned agenda for negotiated rulemaking to start in Spring 2023. Negotiated rulemaking is required for the development and modification of regulations of programs under Title IV of the Higher Education Act. TRIO is among the programs included on the Department's regulatory agenda.

Specifically, the notice states that the "Secretary plans to amend current regulations on the Federal TRIO programs under the HEA, which may include technical improvements to programmatic eligibility and operations." Although no specific date is listed, the notice indicates that the negotiated rulemaking will begin in April 2023.
