Dr. Mary L. Gonzalez

Dr. Gonzalez has almost 30 years of direct working experience with TRIO programs' acquisition, implementation, and training via the Department of Education training grants. Mary oversaw Texas A&M University-Kingsville (TAMUK)’s Office of Student Access (OSA), which houses 11 projects funded through the U.S. Department of Education, including Upward Bound, Upward Bound Math and Science, Educational Opportunity Center, Ronald E. McNair Postbaccalaureate Achievement Program, Student Support Services (Regular and STEM), and Talent Search. In 2015, OSA added a GEAR UP Partnership for $7.2 million providing services in the middle and high schools surrounding TAMUK’s rural campus as well as schools in Corpus Christi.
Under Mary's stewardship, OSA also added a Title V Teacher Prep project in 2017 with previous Title V grants both individual and collaborative grants in the past funding cycles.
Mary has also served as a faculty member of several national training teams (The Council for Opportunity in Education, University of Nevada - Las Vegas, Colorado State University, Southeastern Association of Educational Opportunities Program Personnel) that develop and conduct professional development seminars presented to TRiO personnel.
Since 2002, Mary has been successful in bringing over $61 million in federally funded grants for the university and recently retired as the Associate Vice President for Student Access at TAMUK. Currently, Mary stays connected with TRIO students through her work with the Family Centered Educational Agency, Inc. in Corpus Christi, Texas.
In December 2018, Mary established MLG Consulting to assist program directors with evaluations, compliance, and program visits and working with universities to increase their overall research funding and competitive grant opportunities and focusing on the overall effectiveness of grant-funded programs. The overall focus in working with TRIO professionals and other higher education professionals with overall grant acquisition and rewrites along with continued professional development.
Dr, Gonzalez earned a BBA in Management and Finance and an MS in Psychology from Texas A&M University-Kingsville and a Ph.D. in Human Resource Development in Higher Education from Texas A&M College Station.
